Plain-English definitions for the terminology used across Coach's Corner.
- Acca
- An accumulator bet that links two or more selections; all must win for the bet to pay out.
- Asian Handicap
- A handicap applied to each team to remove the draw option, giving odds closer to 50/50.
- Bankroll
- The total amount of money you have set aside for placing bets.
- Bet Builder
- A tool that lets you combine different outcomes from a single match into one custom wager.
- Both Teams To Score (BTTS)
- A bet on whether each team will score at least one goal during the match.
- Cash Out
- An option to settle your bet early, locking in a profit or cutting a loss before the event ends.
- Correct Score (CS)
- A bet that predicts the exact final score of a match.
- Double Chance
- A wager that covers two of the three possible results (e.g., win‑draw, draw‑lose) for higher chance of winning.
- Draw No Bet
- A bet where you win if your chosen team wins, and you get your stake back if the match ends in a draw.
- Edge
- An advantage you believe you have over the bookmaker’s odds, indicating a potentially profitable bet.
- Even Money
- Odds that double your stake if you win, expressed as 2.00 or +100.
- Fixed Odds
- The odds set by the bookmaker at the time of your bet, which will not change after you place the wager.
- Handicap
- A points or goal adjustment given to a team to make the betting more balanced.
- In-Play
- Betting on a match after it has started, with odds that update as the game progresses.
- Lay
- To bet against an outcome, acting like a bookmaker and accepting bets from other punters.
- Market
- A category of available bets for an event, such as match winner, total goals, or player props.
- Odds
- The number that shows how likely an outcome is and how much you can win relative to your stake.
- Over/Under
- A bet on whether a specific statistic, like total goals, will be higher or lower than a set value.
- Parlay
- A bet that combines multiple selections; all must win for a payout, increasing potential returns.
- Punter
- A person who places bets on sporting events.
- Push
- A tie result in a bet where the stake is returned because the outcome matched the line exactly.
- Spread
- The difference between the handicap line and the actual outcome, used to determine the bet’s result.
- Stake
- The amount of money you risk on a single bet.
- Value Bet
- A bet where the odds offered are higher than the true probability of the event, suggesting an advantage.
- Void
- A cancelled bet where the stake is fully refunded, usually because the event did not occur.
